Getting my regular fix of the sea. Love the hills, but occasionally only a blast of cold salty sea air will do it for me. So drew the lifeboat hut, slight artistic license here as not quite these colours, but I love drawing lobster pots and impossible boats. Why are cars and boats so hard to draw?

  1. Yet another awesome sketch! I really love those birds actually, totally gave life to the picture. Beats me, I don't know why cars and boats are so hard to draw either :)

  2. Had to come and visit after I saw your post about forgetting the soup on the stove - which is exactly what I did yesterday. Thank heavens for Worcestershire sauce - hides a multitude of sins!
Love this sketch - I am a fan of ink and wash and you have this spot on!

  3. Nautically lovely, I can almost smell the salt air. I admire your style, the way your sketches feel light and loose and yet convey all the information. If boats are difficult for you, it doesn't show!

  4. What a charming painting!! Love all of it - even the gulls lined up across the roofline.

  5. Wow, thanks guys for your lovely comments. Guess that salty air must have done some good... and yes, Worcestershire sauce should be hailed as the saviour of all sauces, gravies and bad cooking. 'Blue smoke and swear words' is cooking according to my grandma.

  9. This is a lovely picture Catriona! I spent hours this summer on a visit to Lindisfarne trying to sketch a couple of the boats in the harbour, they really are sooo hard!!! Yours looks effortless though, lovely!
