Hmmm, new pen...

Just bought some new Faber-Castell Pitt artist pens, and thought I'd try them out on a few simple line hand drawings (does anyone else find nails hard to draw?). Love the brush one giving the variety of thickness in the line.
I'm like a kid in a sweetie shop when I find an art supplier (or 2nd hand bookshop even), and think its a good thing really that I can't afford much at all, otherwise I'd be buying the place out. For some reason though I can't resist buying gorgeous sketchbooks with lovely hand made paper, but I find it really hard to find a medium to use in them. Must get over this obsession and either stop buying them or experiment with everything I've collected over the years and hope something sticks!

  1. What a great way to practice using newly bought tools. I too am crazy about pencils and all :)
I agree that nails are hard to draw, but you did it so well! :)

  2. Great hand study. The trouble I have with the tips on the Pitt pens is they have to be so vertical to get the ink out. Being left handed I tend to slant those pens too much and they don't put ink on the page.

Hopefully you find a good medium to use in your nice books. It's fun to be able to feed a good obsession!

  4. Very nice hands. I love the Pitts, especially the brushes. I bought lots of different colors. I guess art supplies can be addictive. Oh well, some women buy shoes, I find colored pencils much more fun.

  5. Oh yes, count me in on the art supplies and books addict! Great study on hands! The nails are the most difficult part in my opinion!

So glad Freebird said what she did about the Pitt pens, I too have problems with some pens and wondered if it was because I am left-handed. Gel pens are the worst for me. They write perfectly well for others, but when I pick it up it skips or doesn't write at all!!

  6. Yes, yes nails are so hard! I usually just do an impression of 'em. You did a very nice job on them though. I have a set of Pitt, and really liked the thinnest of the set - didn't care for the rest. Then I lost it, and would have had to buy a whole new set to replace it, which I was against doing. So I bought some individual Pigma Microns which turned out to be good pens too.
