Sketched and etched

So, I finally collected the etchings I did a week ago. The trees were from a sketch I did on a walk, though forgot that the image would actually be reversed - live and learn I always say...
The 'bees on acid' etch (as a friend described it!) is actually the Giants Causeway, a drawing I did from a photo I took last year in Northern Ireland, and turned into an aquatint. I love the effects of the aquatint and can't wait to try some more. Now got to think up a new idea, as I've got a prepared plate to work on to make sure I do actually go back and not wasted this opportunity of 3 months membership.

  1. Wow, these are really nice! I've never tried etching anything, but you clearly know what you're doing. Well done! nancy

  3. Very beautiful drawings, with lots of expressive line work! I am quite a fan of etching, but have never tried it myself because I have no idea where to get hold of the equipment, and I'm a bit put off by the mess - if I ever do etchings, it would surely be drypoint ones. In the meantime I try to achieve the same sort of effects with ballpoint pen drawings.

  4. How fascinating! I love your etchings, especially the one of the trees. It looks like something by an Old Master. I don't know much about the etching process but would like to learn someday.

  8. What a pleasure to see your etchings! Especially Giant's Causeway. Beautiful in the red ink. (Visited some years ago.)
I have used this medium and wish I had the facilities to do more.
Doesn't matter if the image is reversed unless someone is playing the violin!

  9. Hey thanks everyone, can't wait to do more, and I guess etchings are allowed on EDM? They're sort of drawings???

  10. Hey, Catriona, the way I look at it, with EDM, is not that we have to post only drawings, but that we're celebrating the creative energy in every day. Some post collages, some paintings, too. I'm not Danny Gregory, so obviously this isn't official, but I LOVE seeing different kinds of work!
